Recently, we introduced you to Lilly & Vera, a new shop at Gardner Village. (See the post here.) With that, we included a little teaser about good things to come in the shop across the way from this beautiful boutique. Today’s the day we officially break the news. Please join us in welcoming Refined!

 

At its core, Refined is a men’s novelty store, but there’s actually plenty of things for all at this whimsical stop. Let’s take a look at some of what you’ll find when you visit Refined.

 

Refined has a special connection to Lilly & Vera – David DeVroom, the owner, is married to Rachel DeVroom, the owner at Lilly and Vera. These two have been business partners in the past and are excited about this chance to work together in new and exciting ways now.

 

“I’ve always loved the atmosphere at Gardner Village,” David said. “Together, Rachel and I have nine kids, and we’ve come here with them many times over the years. To take this next professional step in a place that holds deep meaning to our family, feels great.”

 

David clearly places high value on relationships and isn’t afraid to mix business with pleasure. Beyond opening a shop directly across from his wife, his business partner at Refined is his childhood best friend, Dave Favia.

“We’ve been best friends since we were both 14,” David said. “Over the years, we’ve often talked of doing business together. When I noticed the open retail space, I just had to give him a call.”

The idea for Refined actually stems from a joke David and David would share while on shopping trips with the women in their lives.

 

“Coming from a family of six sisters and, now, six daughters, I frequently thought it would be nice to have a guy’s store in the mix,” David said.

 

It wasn’t long before the Refined dream became a reality and the store opened. It's already proving to be a perfect addition to The Village and a fun stop for men and women alike.

 

“We get a kick out of the role reversal we see, as women sit outside our store and wait for the guys to shop,” David said. “Of course, we love when women stop in. We really do carry things that all can enjoy.”

 

“We always laugh when we see women posing for a pic by our ‘what every man needs’ sign out front,” David laughed.

 

Beyond its unique inventory, it’s impossible not to miss the playful atmosphere inside Refined.

 

“I tend to be a glass-half-full person,” David noted. “I go after any task and do my best to make it fun. There are plenty of stresses in life as it is. No sense adding to it. It’s why you’ll find special touches at Refined, like the strength tester and a putting green.”

 

Refined is a great spot to find gifts for the fellas in your life, but they also carry cool things like men's leather bracelets and playful novelty items.

 

“A popular item we carry is our broad assortment of Zippo lighters,” David said. “I was surprised to learn that most who buy these are collectors and not users. It’s interesting to chat with them and learn more about the hobby.”

You can’t help but notice the cool Hollywood touches lining the walls at Refined.

 

“Our memorabilia is a real attention grabber,” David added. “We have so many different pieces, and many have been autographed. We also carry an assortment of items printed by the same printing press who used the create the pieces back in the in the day. This is a smart stop for collectors to find treasures!”  

 

Many poster options can be purchased with or without a frame, which works for most budgets. They also include letters of authenticity.
