Today, we pause to reflect on the importance of kindness. Gardner Village recently partnered with One Kind Act a Day, a nonprofit organization driven by the mission of making a positive difference in the world through simple acts of kindness.

If you’ve visited The Village lately, you likely saw signs in the flower beds and other happy spots, designed to share this all-important idea of the strength we each have to make the world better through kind choices and actions.

Angie is the epitome of kind acts,” said Marcia Johns, Marketing Director at Gardner Village.
Marcia is spot on in her definition of Angie Gerdes, the co-owner of Gardner Village. She’s always looking at ways to make a positive impact in the lives of others. She’s behind our annual Feed My Starving Children charity effort, as well as other acts focused on supporting others. It comes as no surprise that she arranged this opportunity to help spread the word about One Kind Act a Day. When asked what motivated the decision, Angie said one of her favorite scriptures sums it up best:
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
WAYS TO EXPRESS KINDESS
Kindness is expressed in many forms, big and small. It can be a kind act shown to another. It can be planned or even worked into how you go about life. It can be random and on a whim. And, we mustn’t forget, it can be a kindness shown to yourself. Here are a few messages from One Kind Act a Day’s website.

OUR KIND COMMUNITY
We love seeing how our Village lives in a kind way. We know of one mother who loves to paint rocks with her young children. They like to leave their art throughout the Salt Lake Valley, including here in The Village for others find. What a sweet way to spread some sunshine!

Another member of our community likes to paper craft little love notes to sprinkle here and there around town. Sometimes it’s on the banana display at the supermarket. Other times, it’s on a windshield of a random car in a parking lot. We've even spotted a few here at The Village. These have words of encouragement, left in the hopes they reach the one who needs them most at any given moment.
Of course, kindness doesn’t have to involve making. It can be the gift of time spent helping others. It can be a smile or other friendly exchange with a stranger. It can be forgiving yourself for something you’ve carried for far too long. And the list goes on.
“In a world of keyboard warriors and so much division, I love the idea of the kindness campaign because it helps us stop, pause, and think about doing something a little more to spread kindness,” Marcia said. “It can be by sharing a smile, saying hello, talking to the person in line with you at the grocery store, giving a compliment or going out of your way to help someone in need.”
