While classes have been put on a COVID hold at these sweet shops, it doesn’t mean you can’t get your holiday crafting on. You’ll find plenty of prepared kits available for both paper and fabric arts, which make it super simple to enjoy a crafternoon as you prepare your home for amore!
DIY VINTAGE VALENTINE BANNER
This Q.T.pie kit from Posh Paperie is loaded with vintage Valentine appeal. Let’s unpack it and see what kind of creative potential awaits!
The kit contains all of the happiness seen here, including pre-cut Valentine’s Day greetings, various vintage-inspired paper products (flashcards, doilies, BINGO cards, book paper, etc.), all the trimmings (rickrack, baker’s twine, ribbon, pom pom lace, and more!), and delicate details (buttons, a bitty rose, glitter, a glassine treat bag, even a paper straw!).
MATCHES MADE IN PAPER HEAVEN
Here comes the fun part. Okay, diving into the kit is all sorts of fun, but the excitement continues with step two — creating combinations! Mix and match the various pieces and see what kind of textured combinations you can come up with.
Isn't this idea clever? It's a sheet of book paper, folded into the shape of a paper airplane. With ideas like this, your creative heart is going to soar!
When assembling your banner cards, any of the following attachment approaches should do the trick:
- Liquid adhesive, such as Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
- Double-sided tape
- Staples and a stapler
- Machine or hand stitching
- A glue stick
Think about ways to add texture to the vintage-inspired Valentine’s Day cards. On this card, the cute girl’s skirt is brought to life using crepe paper, which adds a delicate texture in just a couple of quick steps.
step 1: Fold crepe paper in an accordion fashion to create a pleated appearance.
step 2: Secure your pleating in place using adhesive.
step 3: Layer small pieces of trim to both secure the pleating and mimic the look of the skirt’s waistband, and trim skirt to desired length.
CRAFTING WITH THE KIDDOS
This particular kit is so much fun to do with your children, and it contains more than enough supplies to go around. Have fun mixing, matching and dreaming up banner ideas. You'll love seeing what your kiddos come up with!
The kit comes with yummy baker’s twine, which you can use to string up your cards, but you’ll also find these sweet felt pom kits at Pine Needles. This particular set includes pink thread and a long sewing needle, which makes it a piece of cake to string together a pom pom garland.
Such a playful strand makes a great space to display your paper creations.
Of course, it's also an adorable standalone decoration. Pair it with tiny strands of leftover fabric for an added textured treat.
PERSONALIZE WITH PICS
Give your banner the extra special touch only YOU can by adding a few favorite photos to the mix. An easy way to make smaller photos (ex. 2x3) is to use a photo collage app on your smart device (such as PicStitch) to add four photos to a single 4x6 print. You can then print the photo and cut the pics out for use on your banner. Cheeeeese!
BEYOND THE BANNER
Here’s another take on pretty paper décor. The patterned shapes are all cut and kitted and ready to be strung.
Take a closer look at the GORGEOUS finishing touch. Pine Needles and Posh Paperie sell these brilliant ribbon bundles in various color schemes and finishes. They’ll take any banner, wreath, or other element to a level all its own. (Think it would be inappropriate to wear a couple as earrings? ;) )
On the fabric side, Pine Needles has many amazing kits and projects to try. Stop by to see your inspiring options.
