Throw that confetti. Twirl that baton. One of the most highly-anticipated parades of the year is in town—the Salt Lake Parade of Homes! And CF Home Furniture & Design at Gardner Village is on parade throughout one of the gorgeous dwellings.
On the parade route, you’ll find this awesome abode!
Inside, items from CF Home, Down to Earth, Layers Beautiful Bedding, and The Black Goose Design have come together to make this house feel like home. Tyler, Maddie, and Shalees, of CF Home, were the creative directors behind it all. Together, they spent more than 100 hours concepting, designing, decorating and styling to create beautiful surroundings anyone would be delighted to call home!
Let’s be honest. Most of us don’t partake in the parade to buy a home, as much as we may wish that were our primary purpose. Instead, we go to find ideas of ways to inspire and update our own homes.
If you fall into this group, or maybe you are building and still would love some decorating pointers, here are a few tidbits to keep in mind:
1. Direct your decorating with a focal piece.
When the CF Home Furniture & Design team walked into this pretty place, there wasn’t a thing on a wall or a bauble on a shelf. In order to find a cohesive vision, they first selected a focal item that would set the tone for the home and guide the rest of their selection. This can be a decorative pillow you love or a piece of wall art that inspires. In their case, this colorful rug was just the ticket. It provided their color palette and sent them on their way.
2. Add some new to the old.
If you don’t have a new home budget but want a fresh look, think of ways you can add more cosmetic updates to freshen up your overall surroundings. For example, getting back to our rug, rugs are a great way to hide ugly carpet or freshen up tired tile. (Not that the flooring in this gorgeous home is either of those things.)
Maybe all new furnishings aren’t in the near future, but a cute chair could spice up the space. Your sofa and accent chairs do not have to be exact matches. Bring in a fresh seat and see what happens to that old, worn sectional.
Saddle up! New bar stools or kitchen chairs can also make a big impact.
3. Layer on that inviting feeling.
Decorative pillows and throws are a quick way to add comfort and a cozy feel, immediately warming up any room (and you!).
4. Plant some farm finesse.
It’s no secret “farm” is in fashion, and CF Home and the other Village shops have many ways you can add some farm charm into your home. You don’t have to build a shiplap wall or overhaul your cabinetry to make your home Fixer Upper fab. If you don’t have the budget for such things now, decorative accents are your answer!
5. Go beyond basic.
You’re having a baby! Congrats! This is such a fun time. Nothing beats planning that nursery. Of course, updating Big Sister or Big Brother’s room is also a joy. Either way, think of ways to make these rooms feel more modern while also holding that youthful vibe using decor items not necessarily designed with tiny tots in mind. It will make your house stand out in a modern yet welcoming way.
6. Set the scene.
For countertops and table centers and other open spots in your home, look at ways to group like items and create a central design element. Trays are an excellent foundation for you to then fill in with items of various heights and textures to create a one-of-a-kind piece for your home.
7. Light up your life.
To make your home feel brighter, try turning on a new light. Fresh fixtures and stylish lamps are an affordable way to update any space.
8. See the sign.
Channel your inner Ace of Base and look for fun signs to add to your walls. It's a great way to add a pop of personality to any room.
9. Get reflective.
Mirrors are another way to instantly make a room feel larger and increase your light. Whether you add a full-length mirror and find smaller on-the-wall options, a mirror-mirror on the wall (or on a shelf, or on the floor, or anywhere...) is sure to make your home the fairest of them all.
10. Make it you!
This is the best advice on our list. You’re going to love your home if it feels like you. If that means you’re all about the modern farmhouse trend right now, great! If more of a classic look captures your heart, then go that route. The most important thing is that you do you, even if it’s nothing like what the neighbors do. And no matter your style, you’ll find quick, budget-friendly ways to breathe some fresh life into your surroundings at CF Home and many of our Village shops.
The Time is Now!
Want to see this striking house in person, as well as the many other remarkable homes on the parade route? The time is now. The Salt Lake Parade of Homes runs through Aug. 12, from 10 AM-9 PM (closed Sundays). Learn more and get tickets here.
Cheers!
